The Rise of New Media

Noticed: Cinema has begun to show the power of the media, through villains and heroes.

It's perfectly normal to have an evil nemesis threaten a hero through some televised footage. But media has reached a whole new level of imagery until what is televised to the hero and the endangered world - is just a studio set up by one of the characters. What is shown to the hero is a fake image of the 'face' of the villain. And similarly, what is shown to the city civilians is a pumped up, paparazzi version of the hero.

What I mean to say is that even fictional films are recognizing the power of an 'image'. While most of the real world is struggling to grasp the power of graphics, image presentation, and branding, story plots are putting the fact that media can be used as a tool to deceive their movie characters. Through the power of an image a twist is formed in a blockbuster story, characters are being fooled, and the audience is carried away with the idea.

The media is a manipulating tool. While it is a general consensus, the exact degree of its trickery remains unannounced, but gradually acknowledged. Every lighting, every colour, every angle on broadcast media has been thought through by a production team. Behind the scenes, every word in so called reality shows, in breaking news speeches, in voting announcements, has been well crafted and engineered based on the marketing department statistics, and pilot episode experiments.

There are international companies set up based to create an image of a product. There are public relations to handle and protect the image. Graphic designers and make up artists to constantly create the scenes and stars. Corporate communications, media spokespeople and editors to smoothen business operations. Famous faces admit to plastic surgery, food companies use photoshop. It is now the norm. The products of all this are billboard advertisements, flawless celebrities, and dramatic political parties.

The point is to be aware, that whatever is seen on screen and print has been polished.

The point is to also be aware, that presentations and media can be used to your advantage in life.

The point is. At this present age, impressions and good communication, is the  key.
