Champions

The best part of participating in the University's swimming tournament wasn't really in obtaining the medals. It was in the events, when the first placed swimmer had reach the bar, had freed their eyes from goggles, basking in the glory of a champion, that everyone, everyone, on the bleachers was still cheering for the last participant, watching them struggling to make it to the end. Even when a couple of participants had cramps, had to be pulled out from the water, people were clapping and cheering them, shouting out "good job!". It wasn't a celebration of winning, it was a celebration of trying, of recognizing and congratulating effort, that I felt was one of the best sports meet I'd ever been a part of.
